Social Media - General Policies
Our policies on social media can be summarized in one sentence: "Be prudent and use common sense; do not self-promote."
Remember, everything you contribute online stays forever and everything you do, often on a personal basis, reflects on the Community Associations Institute Arizona Chapter. Failure to follow these policies may result in disciplinary action from the organization and may include banishment from the social media initiatives within the organization.
Ask yourself, "Would this public expression impair my ability to work with my colleagues on a friendly basis? Would it give a leg up to our competition? Would it make my colleagues, partners, customers, board members or homeowners uncomfortable? Could it damage the reputation of the organization?"
While we encourage open communication both internally and externally in all forms, we expect and insist that such communication does not substantively demean our environment. This means that constructive criticism — both privately and publicly — is welcome, but harsh or continuous disparagement is frowned upon.
Externally communicating confidential chapter information or other aspects of the organization information that is not intended for public consumption (membership lists, educational products, sponsorship agreements, un-reference-able clients, earnings, etc.) is ALWAYS forbidden.
Social Media - Specific Policies
Respectful Tone - You may not post any material that is defamatory, libelous, threatening, harassing, abusive, hateful or embarrassing to another person or any other person or entity. This includes, but is not limited to, comments regarding Community Associations Institute, our employees, partners, members or competitors. You may not personally attack fellow employees, authors, customers, business partners, corporate partners, board members or homeowners participating in CAI related social media outlets.
Obscene/Offensive Speech - Obscene, profane and offensive postings and speech, in the view of the administrators, is not permitted and is subject to immediate removal. Repeated violations of this policy may subject you to permanent exclusion from the chapter's Facebook page.
Political Speech - Political postings and speech, related to HOA governance and operations, is encouraged and welcome, if provided in a Respectful Tone (see above).
Marketing/Sales Oriented Speech - Marketing and sales oriented postings and speech is not permitted, except as the Chapter may allow to its sponsors or members or under guidelines of the Chapter. Marketing and sales postings and speech not approved or permitted by the Chapter is subject to removal by the administrators.
Authenticity - Posts should be factual. Posts should not make comparative statements concerning your competitors without prior independent approval of legal and verification of accuracy.
Confidential Information - You may not disclose any sensitive, proprietary, confidential or financial information about the organization. This includes revenues, profits, forecasts, and other financial information, any confidential information related to specific products, product lines, customers, partners, etc. Posts should not speculate on Community Associations Institute future plans, results, or business prospects.
Copyrights and Trademarks - Respect copyright and fair use laws. When citing the work of another person or organization, professional bloggers, like journalists, will use proper attribution as well as a link (if applicable). Trademarks such as logos, slogans and various digital content (art, music, photos, etc.), may require permission from the copyright owner. It is your responsibility to seek that permission if you intend to use any such trademarked content.
Administrators are designated by the Chapter, and include the Executive Director of the Chapter. Administrators will immediately remove any content they believe to be malicious or profane, or defile any of the policies of the Chapter.
