Clear As Mud- Leading with Communication
I stared at the project result being proudly displayed by a team member and tried valiantly to school
my facial features from telegraphing my reaction. Quickly contemplating my verbal instructions
that had been given for the project, I was dismayed to validate that although vastly different, both
the project as envisioned in my mind, and the project as physically produced, each met the verbal
parameters I had given. Ultimately, the problem did not lie with my team member’s
comprehension, but with my failure to effectively communicate instructions in a clear, thorough
and concise manner. Over the subsequent couple of months, multiple of my direct reports, each
department supervisors themselves, expressed frustration that instructions they had given to their
direct reports were not being followed; and dissatisfaction with performance was increasing. It was
time to gather the leaders together to communicate and engage in a time-tested learning
experience. .

CAI Arizona Legislative Action Committee Session Summary
CAI’s legislative session was marked by great success despite very difficult legislation that was introduced, which the LAC strongly opposed. The LAC reviewed and took positions on 31 bills this session, of which 25 died. Ultimately, the list was reduced to four bills on the priority list that passed and two on the monitor list . While CAI was opposed to some of those four bills, we were successful in obtaining certain language changes and new provisions which were big wins for HOAs and will prove helpful to Homeowner Association Boards and homeowners. The effective date of the bills is September 26, 2025
